I'm sure you've heard the saying... we look like our pets? Or maybe, we choose pets that look like us? What ever the case, it is always fun to meet people and their pets and find the similarities... sometimes its personality that owners share with their pet: shy or timid; bold or aggressive; stocky or thin; lazy or athletic; high-strung or loopy... And sometimes, the owner and pet truly do look like each other! Same hair color, same eyes or same expressions!
But I've made yet another connection between people and pets... have you ever looked around at your circle of friends to discover that they own the same pet breed as you... or in their past have owned the same breed as you? Have you ever met someone, felt an instant connection or kinship, only to find out later that they have or have had the same breed of pet as you?
For instance, you might be a cat lover with 5 cats at home... I bet in your circle of friends, you have other cat lovers who also have multiple cats! Or maybe in their past, they might have owned as many cats as you!
I've looked around at my circle of friends... and it seems the people I am closest to or have a history with, all enjoy the same breed of dog as myself! I am a huge "lab" lover! I've adopted my share of mutts in the past, but I am drawn to labs. When I look around at the people closest to me, I discovered, they currently own or have owned labs in the past. Now, I know Labs are very common... so I tested my theory. I've asked people to talk with me about pets they've had and if they could find a common pet connection within their circle of friends... not surprising that most people could!
I'm sure you've heard the old saying, "you are who your friends are"! If you hang with successful people, you will be successful. If your friends are fit, you are more likely to be fit! If you are a good Christian, your friends are probably good Christians too! Does this mean we could be drawn to our friends because we share the same "tastes" in pets? Or, is it our preference in a pet what draws us together in the first place? Does our personalities determine what type of pet we will own?
Many solid relationships have been built on a common connection to a specific breed of pet. How many people have you met over your life-time where the "pet" is what drew you together in the first place? Maybe "Dating Boards" should ask the question, "what specific breed of animal have you owned or currently own"? Wonder how many relationships have ended due to pet incompatibilities? Maybe I am onto something... I'm considering giving up my day job and starting a new business, "Compatibility Testing for People With Pets"...
Never underestimate the power of your pet!!
